NOTES: Reverse: "Pittsburgh. Penna. The Memorial in 
honor of the Soldiers, Sailors and Marines of Allegheny County, who 
served in the War for the Suppression of the Rebellion, was the result 
of efforts made by the members of the 28 Posts of the Grand Army of 
the Republic located in the county, who secured the necessary 
legislation leading to an overwhelming majority vote of the electors 
of the county authorizing the purchase of the site and erection of 
the building in this city, at a cost of $1,652,500.00.
"The building, a magnificent architectural structure, which was 
completed in the fall of 1910 and dedicated with appropriate 
ceremonies on October 11 of that year, is located on a city square, 
having a frontage of 280 feet on Fifth Avenue and extending back 598 
feet to Bayard Street. The Memorial faces Schenley Park, while nearby 
are the imposing buildings of the 'Carnegie Library' and 'Technical 
Institute,' 'Pittsburgh Athletic Association,' 'Masonic Temple,' 
'University Club,' 'Armory of the 18th Regiment, N. G. P.' and those 
of the 'University of Pittsburgh,' all of which are fine specimens 
of architecture.
"The Memorial building is 240 by 210 feet and contains two large 
rooms for the free use of the Posts of the Grand Army, the Union 
Veteran Legion and their auxiliaries, an auditorium having a seating 
capacity of 2550 and a banquet room seating 800, together with office 
and committee rooms. A wide corridor extends around the entire 
auditorium, upon the walls of which are now being placed mural 
tablets of the organizations formed in Allegheny County, with the name 
of each individual soldier and sailor, who served in the Union Army 
or Navy from this county.
"The following Comrades of the Grand Army are members of the Board of 
Managers: W. J. Patterson, President; H. H. Bengough, Secretary; F. L. 
Blair, J. W. Boyd, W. T. Bradberry, I. K. Campbell, S. M. Evans, 
John A. Fairman, C. W. Gerwig, Chas. F. McKenna and W. T. Powell."
