How I heard about Universal Service: Pennsylvania: announcement on mailing list

My experience in this area:

Work with community-based organizations who are trying to integrate the use of technology into their program offering and organizational structure. My background traverses many arenas including business/industry, technology education/training, organizational development, strategic planning, program development, career/job development, child/youth development, participatory research methodologies, economic development, learning-based & problem-solving education, etc. Technology presents a terrific opportunity for communities to connect where ties are broken. With effective integration and use of technology, communication patterns can change and community organizations can work together to cultivate a culture of learning and a culture of work that supports the efforts of public schools. My involvement in these areas will help me contribute to the discussion.

What I hope to learn:

I hope to understand the structure of opportunities for community organizations in relationship to the E-rate, not only for their own benefit but to position them to participate in creating a culture of learning in support of schools and libraries. I hope this seminar results in plans of action, defined leadership and strategies that will help communities take advantage of these opportunities.

Additional comments:

The content of this seminar needs to be available to folk who are either not online or who are new to the online world and as a result will not participate in this process. I would like to see face-to-face meetings held simultaneous to the seminar, strategically placed throughout the region so the knowledge is spread and community activism stimulated and captured.
