My opinion is that unless people really believe that teachers are
professionals and treat them as such, nothing much will change.
My own example is my NSF project, The Well Connected Educator. It's an
online publishing center for K-12 teachers and others (administrators,
parents, community members) to write and talk about using technology for
teaching and learning.
We emphasize the teacher perspective as the best source of authentic
information (esp for other teachers) and we value what teachers write by
paying them for their articles. We hope to encourage teachers to reflect on
their practice, share with peers, and understand that their work and their
writing are valued.
