Claire,
	You've touched on something that is near to my heart.  I'd like you to
think about something you said, in more detail:
"Someone has to have their eyes and ears open so that when an
opportunity arises..."  There is a powerful message in what you say. 
What do people see or hear that indicates that opportunity?
	As you said, teachers are not vessels to load with information for
forwarding the delivery of program-X, undisturbed, to the students.
They are professionals, proud of their work, and in need of
opportunities for growth.  So, just what indicates the "readiness" or, a
you said, "when an opportunity arises?"  Those who know me, know I carry
around a term that I feel addresses this:  "constructive dissonance" 
When a teacher experiences this, there is a willingness to make change,
seek growth, or .....
	As a point of discussion, where are the rest of you?  We appreciate the
input, and we'll begin to focus after gathering your thoughts.  
Professional development IS... or is NOT...
