Background

Through Common Knowledge: Pittsburgh, students and staff in the Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) are using the Internet as an integral part of their educational activities. Internet use demands both technical and research skills. This fall we are offering a variety of classes that will help you in your efforts to use the Internet. The classes are open to all PPS staff and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. We will be offering four types of classes.

Mini-Courses: These classes will address specific skills such as email, news, WWW, ftp, and Operating Systems. Each session is limited to 15 participants.

Curriculum Courses: These classes will investigate how staff and students use the Internet in content areas. Each session is limited to 20 participants.

Extended Courses: These courses will teach expanded concepts such as using HTML to create homepages and research on the Internet . Participants who attend for at least 15 hours will receive 1 increment credit. Each course is limited to 15 participants.

Workshops: These half-day workshops are intended for school administrators, counselors, and staff at school sites who have primary responsibility for technical/computer applications and support. Staff will have to obtain release time from their schools to attend. Each workshop is limited to 15 participants.
