Dr. Davidson is an educational anthropologist and evaluation
specialist whose research has focussed generally on the
relationship between school and classroom processes and students'
notions about schooling and the student role. She has considered
how aspects of school and classroom culture shape students' ideas
about the relationship between their ethnicity and success in
school. Currently, she is working in the area of portfolio
assessment, considering how immersion in portfolio-based
classrooms shapes students' views of themselves as learners.
Davidson received her M.A. degree in anthropology and Ph.D.
degree in curriculum and teacher education in 1992 from Stanford
University. Prior to enrollment in the Ph.D. program, she was a
teacher in the People's Republic of China. She joined the CK:P
assessment group staff in August, 1994.
