Roberto Clemente
18 August 1934 -- 31 December 1972

Detail of Roberto Clemente's face.

Just over 25 years ago, Roberto Clemente was killed when the airplane in which he was riding, crashed. He was on a mission of mercy bringing relief aid to victims of a recent Nicaraguan earthquake. The following two haiku-like poems were observed spray-painted on the backside remaining stretch of Forbes Field's outfield wall. The poems have since been obliterated, and the poet identified only as D J RENEGADE
