My personal experience with money and politics is through the union I belong to: National Education Association (NEA). Part of my dues goes to the political action activities and lobbying efforts of this group, which is overwhelmingly for the Democratic Party. Although I often vote Republican, I consider myself an Independent. I have never voted for a Democrat for many reasons, mostly philosophical. I am not particularly happy about belonging to a union to begin with, and I am not happy at all with my dues being used to fund candidates and issues I disagree with.
