Theodore R. Mitchell

Ted Mitchell became the 12th president of Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA in 1999. A former deputy to the president at Stanford and vice chancellor at UCLA, Mitchell is a national leader in the effort to provide high-quality education for all students and has long been active in California and Los Angeles educational reform initiatives.

Immediately prior to coming to Occidental, Mitchell served as vice president for education and strategic initiatives of the J. Paul Getty Trust.

Mitchell lives on the Occidental College campus in Los Angeles with his wife, Christine Beckman, their daughter Caroline, and son Theo.
